Sid Lee Memorial Mental Health Association (Sid's House) is a grassroots, community-based mental health organization focused on prevention, stigma reduction, family support, and early intervention in rural Stokes County, North Carolina.
Sid's House exists so people do not have to be "well" to belong. We believe consistency saves lives, and community sustains care.

We serve everyone of any race, gender identity, ethnicity, religion, spiritual beliefs, physical and intellectual difference, and age. Services are free of charge. Our primary focus is the people of Stokes County but residents from surrounding counties are welcome as well.
Individuals with a mental health and/or substance use disorder diagnosis or those who experience pain or difficulty with behavior, emotion, or destructive thinking (and their families) are invited to attend group support and to ask for one to one peer support, attend educational classes, and find a safe place to talk. We also make referrals to psychiatrists, hospitals, doctors, and other local services.
In Memory of Sid Lee, 6/30/90 - 12/28/17
Sid Lee, 27, died by suicide in Germanton, NC, where he grew up. In response to their tragic loss, his family established this mental health association in Stokes County to prevent others from taking their own lives. This is a peer-led community health organization that offers individualized and group recovery services free of charge.
Although the suicide rate in the county has declined over the last 20 years, it is still among the highest in the state. The organization has joined other agencies to restore dignity to those who suffer stigma and pain because of medical diseases known as mental illness.
This 501c3, in honor of Sid and everyone with mental illness, is dedicated to community health.

Each month, individuals and families come through our doors seeking support as they navigate grief, mental health challenges, recovery, and life’s unexpected hardships. Through peer-led support groups and one-on-one support, we help ensure no one in our community has to face those struggles alone.
But for this work to continue—and grow—we need the support of our neighbors.
We are building a circle of 100 caring neighbors who commit to giving $25 per month.
Together, those monthly gifts will create a stable foundation for the organization and allow us to continue offering support groups and peer support to those who need it most.

Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. Your donation helps provide a safe and welcoming space for peer support groups, one-on-one peer support for individuals in crisis or transition, and more.

Sid's House Founder Mary Lee is available to speak at churches, businesses, civic groups, and community organizations in person and virtually. Mary and Sid's House volunteers can also present NAMI trainings.

Word of mouth makes a powerful difference in a small county like ours. To stay updated on support groups, community events, and ways to get involved, follow the Sid Lee Memorial Mental Health Association on Facebook.
